Heat: Coffee Shop Scene

(be advised, mature content) Smack bang in the middle of Michael Mann’s riveting crime classic, stars 2 of cinema’s greatest talents in a scene that unexpectedly fleshes out these 2 characters as men who understand each other to a point where no one else could ever understand them except each other, even though they’re on opposite sides of the law. A shame really as if they weren’t aware of each others activities, I could imagine them having a lifelong friendship with one another. The star power of this movie is what drawn a lot of people, and Man knows this, which is why it’s all the more admirable that he flips the cops and robbers narrative on it’s head by presenting its characters as people with real dilemmas, especially when they don’t say a word and they’re staring into space. It’s quite poignant.
